8) Who doesn't love mangoes ? I grew up with mangos in the garden :D

In Egypt the season starts at the end of July and ends around beginning December but even after that you can still drink the delicious
"fresh"mango juice which they they keep in giant plastic containers in the freezer If you have tasted mango's before in your home country trust me the taste bears no resemblance to what you get in Egypt
the variety called "Zebda"(butter) is best to make juice, if you want the best tasting fresh mango's you will find them on the top shelf in the supermarkets of Cairo


Incidental if you have a mango tree in your garden or live close to one and wonder why there are so many flies about ..its the mango trees they are pollinated by flies
and.. don't eat too much mango as with many delicacies they are high in fat and sugar :( but are packed with vitamin A,B and C

Mango MANGO custard topped with dried fruit & nuts. Mahalabeya It is an Egyptian dessert :arrow:

Prep: 10 minutes
Cook: 15 minutes

Ingredients

· 4 cups milk
· 1 cup sugar
· 4 tablespoons cornflour
· 1 cup mango juice
· 1/2 cup water
· 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence
· dried fruits and nuts to garnish
· mango slices (optional)

Directions

Mix sugar with 3 cups of the milk, heat until boiling. Mix cornflour with remaining cup of milk. Then add it slowly to sugar-milk mixture while stirring quickly until it re-boils. It is very important to stir quickly.

Add mango juice to the mixture and stir quickly. Turn heat down to low. Cook for 5 minutes. Add water and vanilla essence to the mixture and stir for 3 more minutes.

Remove mixture from heat and wait until it cools down a little. Pour into round individual dessert dishes.
