Born in Algeria but now based in France, Khaled is known as the king of rai. His Egyptian, Spanish and French music influences were enhanced by the popular artists of the time including James Brown and The Beatles. With a blend of funk, reggae and Arabic music, Khaled soon pioneered the transformation of räi from a local style to worldwide popularity. |

Winky, if you like Khaled, listen to the album 1 2 3 Soleil...
Rachid Taha, Faudel and Khaled recorded this album during 1 2 3 Soleil concert. You can find some "traditional" Algerian songs with new arrangements.
Rachid Taha's texts are very interesting. (political background)
Faudel is more commercial.

Alna :) Oh you are so lucky to have been to their concert I read it was in 1998 in Paris, right ?
8) Thank you for your tip unfortunately I had not seen Kamar's post but her links dont show the right videos anymore
But never mind I put the name in the search box and am enjoying the music while I am making my lunch !! :D
I just read up on him Khaled
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khaled_%28musician%29
after listening to his song about the 19th century Algerian Sufi saint
Abd al-Qadir al-Jazairi
I like this version the best:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_S8JuA0_WQ
Abdel Kader, my master, my guide
Ease my pain, make me strong
Help me through the dark night of my soul
O sweet girl of my homeland
Why is my heart so troubled
While yours is at peace? In spite of love's many pleasures
She's turned away and left me
After a night of bliss
Abdel Kader, keeper of the keys
Keeper of my soul
I have left heaven and come back to earth
Away from her arms
I pray life is long enough to let me start over
Heal me and turn away from my pain
I still like Henna and Aicia the best to be honest
I will listen to the 123 Soleils album and the other singers when I have more time
Thanks again
PS
I burned my lunch Lol got distracted have to start again !! |
