Mozambique born...

She sings in Portuguese spoken in Portugal, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Brazil, and a few other countries.

She sings in a Portuguese "fado" modern style. Real gem. She won several world awards in music as well as awards for preserving the Portuguese culture.

Since 2005, she has been touring North America and Europe, giving concerts. We were lucky to have her in the Windy City to perform at the Millinium Park for FREE  8)

She sang so beautifully, people refused to leave and gave her a 15-minute standing ovation with "Bravo" and stuff that she had to come back and give another song, and then she gracefully bowed, being so humble about her own talent and so grateful of people's appreciation of it...I waas actually so proud of many people here who came. Half way through the 1-hour concert, it started to rain, but people moved close to the stage of the open air park, popped their umbrellas (those who were prepared), and those without umbrellas simply tried to find some spot from rain, but people stayed 8) Thunderstorm and pouring rain started the minute she finished singing, and it rained for hours... My friend and I were waiting for another friend to rescue us and we ran barefeet through the rain to the car after this concert, but it was absolutely worth it, even ruining our dresses 8)    opps, I am not sure what Ricky ruined. It was kat really 8)

Obrigaga Alisa I liked it you posted Mariza :) I had an enjoyable hour this afternoon when I wrote this post but have' t had the time to post this yet

In Angola ( a former Portuguese colony I heard allot of fado its very
sad music I don't like all fado but Mariza's own version of fado is easier on the ears then the traditional fado

video and audio links

Fado emerged from the brothels and taverns of Lisbon about 200 years ago, and were first sung by lonely sailors. Today the songs are mostly performed in restaurants and special fado clubs.

If you liked Mariza Alisa then try and find Cesaria Evora she is
the queen of Morna her songs are filled with heartache longing and sorrow
Morna is a genre of Cape Verdean music, related to Portuguese fado, Brazilian modinha, Argentinian tango, and Angolan lament.
Évora's voice, is a finely tuned melancholy instrument with a touch of hoarseness.
Even audiences who do not understand her language are held spell-bound by the emotions evident in her performances.

:) Cesaria on video lol close your eyes  its her voice not her looks which are remarkable

saudade ( the pain of missing the person you love but who lives far away from you)
