| Has anybody here ever been to Iceland, or anywhere near the Arctic circle for your holidays? Would you recommend it? |

:) I have not been to Iceland but I have been North of the arctic circle as far as Bodo in Norway
I recommend Norway for a similar holiday, as parts of it looks very much like Iceland but there is more variety but mid May or June would be the better month to go there .
Its drier and sunnier
Just realise that the average temperature in July and August in Iceland is around 11°C but there are exceptions of course
the Blue Lagoon in Iceland
Explorer keep this site in your favourites if you want to see lots of photos from a country you can find them here

Thanks Winky. It would be an expensive holiday to Iceland, but I was only thinking about it to escape from our current heatwave if it continues. The travel agent didn't have any summer holidays to any of these colder places and the woman looked shocked when I asked her.
I have been to Norway and I really liked it and that was in summer too. I would consider Finland and Sweden too. They have longer summer days than we do, but shorter winter days. That is one reason why I wouldn't really consider the Father Christmas tour in December. It would be so dark and very cold indeed.
It would be great to see the Aurora Borealis and to see a whale and to sleep on that bed made out of ice though. If I had a sweetheart who lived in the Arctic countries, I would make an exception to go and visit her during my winter holiday time. |
