My country of origin is America. My grandparents on both sides came over here from Ireland. My grandfather on mother's side went through all of the legalities to come and make a life here in America, and I am thankful that he did that. It took 10 years before he was able to migrate from Ireland. He agreed to fight in the American Army. And then he joined the U.S. Olympic Team and was an athlete in the U.S. Olympics in track and field. He won many medals, we still have them. Later he went to work for the Federal Government. This was all during a time when nobody liked Irish people. And he survived and lived a very good life.

I don't know much about my father's parents. Just that they were killed when he was 3 years old and left behind 13 children, one of them being my father. I have a picture of them. They were farmers and lived in the state of Georgia. They were typically very poor and lived off what they grew on the farm.

I have known only one Scottish guy in real life and he was very nice.

I love Irish accents. My grandfather and godfather both had thick Irish brogues. I love to hear Irish men talk.

I guess living in Ireland isn't too good though. My grandfather never went back there once he migrated here. He didn't even want to be thought of as Irish. He wanted to be American. I have relatives there too, who are farmers in Meathe.

I think the world can become enriched from having a more 'multicultural society' etc. I have Irish in my background too (though a little further back - a great grandmother) and also a dash of Scottish. My Mother was Italian, so have a good dose of latin temperament too but toned down by my 'English reserve'.

Ah Ratty - nice to see you -

My sister's husband and her children all say that they love that Italian side to my sister - it's what makes us such characters maybe ?
