Yes as in Jekyl and Hyde. I call them "bipolar people". I cannot stand it either. Working for someone like that is hell.

:? My sister suffers from Bi Polar disorder, its not a joke. Its a very serious condition, controled only to an extent by medication that she needs to take or she will be completely psychotic. However this medication reeks havoc on the liver. Its truly sad.

However there are people who are just moody or hormonal. Lets call a spade a spade.

I know it is a horrible illness.

But there are people who are not diagnosed with bipolar disorder who act inconsistent in their moods.

I used to live in an apartment complex with the apartment manager living right next door to me. She was supposedly bipolar. The very first week I was living there she proceeded to tell he her entire terrible life story and how she and every person in her family who is blood related to her is "bipolar". Her name is Shirley.

After I got to know a few of the other tenants there, one who I made friends with named Rene told me that Shirley tells everyone about her supposed "bipolar disorder". Even if you do not want to hear it, if you are listening, she would tell you. No matter if you are a stranger or a new tenant, you will have to hear her story about her bipolar disorder. Her son lived with her and was supposedly "bipolar" also.

She was a horrible gossip. If you shared any informaton with her about your personal life, you can bet that the entire apartment complex would also know about it within the week...thanks to her gossiping. And she caused a lot of tenants to get very angry at her.

She'd also never bathe and sat in the laundry room and smoked menthol cigarettes in there, even if there was a tenant in there doing laundry. She was like a junkyard dog. If anybody came on the property she'd bark "Can I help you?" Just as loud as she could.

One day my brother came to visit me, he was driving a Mercedes that day after a chiropractic seminar he had to attend. I was not home that day. I didn't learn of his visit until a week later. He said that he had come to visit me and as he walked up to my door, he heard a woman barking "Can I help you" From the apartment next door. It was Shirley the bipolar apartment manager, sticking her nose into my business. I later called her an asked her why she did not tell me about that, she said she "forgot". My brother said that she didn't believe he was my brother and said scoffingly "you're her brother"? That *beep* me off.

She also barked at my mother for parking in the visitor marked parking area. ???????My mother said that her telling everyone that she was "bipolar" was just her excuse to be rude to everyone. As she was an extremely rude woman.

I eventually wrote a letter to the property management about her. They used it against her one day when she actually went in there and complained about me standing up to her. She later told my friend Rene that she thought they were going to fire he. I wonder why?

One of the symptoms of Bi Polar disorder is not being able to care for ones self IE: not bathing properly not brushing ones teeth ect ect.

Another is Paranoia.

To understand the nature of Bi Polar is not an easy thing. Its very complicated, especially when its with psychotic features.

A Bi Plolar person usually has not personal boundries. Meaning they will tell anyone about anything. Also they will stand too close when talking. Also will speak very loudly.

Im turly sorry for you bad experience. However, Living with a sister that I love & seeing her suffer with this disorder makes me very sensitive to any joke or anything to that affect when talking about Bi Polar persons.

I dont know if you apartment manager was Bi Polar or not.

Bi Polar disprder IS Passed through blood lines.

Bi Polar persons have a hard time telling whats real & whats fantasy, in fact, they believe all the fantasy is real.

So, I dont know if this woman was just rude or what.

What I do know is that I took offence to you calling anyone who is moody around you *Bi Polar* because in honesty, this is not the case. And Bi Polar is a horrible thing to live with.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What Are the Symptoms of Bipolar Disorder?
Bipolar disorder causes dramatic mood swings—from overly "high" and/or irritable to sad and hopeless, and then back again, often with periods of normal mood in between. Severe changes in energy and behavior go along with these changes in mood. The periods of highs and lows are called episodes of mania and depression.
Signs and symptoms of mania (or a manic episode) include:
Increased energy, activity, and restlessness
Excessively "high," overly good, euphoric mood
Extreme irritability
Racing thoughts and talking very fast, jumping from one idea to another
Distractibility, can't concentrate well
Little sleep needed
Unrealistic beliefs in one's abilities and powers
Poor judgment
Spending sprees
A lasting period of behavior that is different from usual
Increased sexual drive
Abuse of drugs, particularly cocaine, alcohol, and sleeping medications
Provocative, intrusive, or aggressive behavior
Denial that anything is wrong
A manic episode is diagnosed if elevated mood occurs with three or more of the other symptoms most of the day, nearly every day, for 1 week or longer. If the mood is irritable, four additional symptoms must be present.
Signs and symptoms of depression (or a depressive episode) include:
Lasting sad, anxious, or empty mood
Feelings of hopelessness or pessimism
Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or helplessness
Loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed, including sex
Decreased energy, a feeling of fatigue or of being "slowed down"
Difficulty concentrating, remembering, making decisions
Restlessness or irritability
Sleeping too much, or can't sleep
Change in appetite and/or unintended weight loss or gain
Chronic pain or other persistent bodily symptoms that are not caused by physical illness or injury
Thoughts of death or suicide, or suicide attempts
A depressive episode is diagnosed if five or more of these symptoms last most of the day, nearly every day, for a period of 2 weeks or longer.
A mild to moderate level of mania is called hypomania. Hypomania may feel good to the person who experiences it and may even be associated with good functioning and enhanced productivity. Thus even when family and friends learn to recognize the mood swings as possible bipolar disorder, the person may deny that anything is wrong. Without proper treatment, however, hypomania can become severe mania in some people or can switch into depression.
Sometimes, severe episodes of mania or depression include symptoms of psychosis (or psychotic symptoms). Common psychotic symptoms are hallucinations (hearing, seeing, or otherwise sensing the presence of things not actually there) and delusions (false, strongly held beliefs not influenced by logical reasoning or explained by a person's usual cultural concepts). Psychotic symptoms in bipolar disorder tend to reflect the extreme mood state at the time. For example, delusions of grandiosity, such as believing one is the President or has special powers or wealth, may occur during mania; delusions of guilt or worthlessness, such as believing that one is ruined and penniless or has committed some terrible crime, may appear during depression. People with bipolar disorder who have these symptoms are sometimes incorrectly diagnosed as having schizophrenia, another severe mental illness.
It may be helpful to think of the various mood states in bipolar disorder as a spectrum or continuous range. At one end is severe depression, above which is moderate depression and then mild low mood, which many people call "the blues" when it is short-lived but is termed "dysthymia" when it is chronic. Then there is normal or balanced mood, above which comes hypomania (mild to moderate mania), and then severe mania.
In some people, however, symptoms of mania and depression may occur together in what is called a mixed bipolar state. Symptoms of a mixed state often include agitation, trouble sleeping, significant change in appetite, psychosis, and suicidal thinking. A person may have a very sad, hopeless mood while at the same time feeling extremely energized.
Bipolar disorder may appear to be a problem other than mental illness—for instance, alcohol or drug abuse, poor school or work performance, or strained interpersonal relationships. Such problems in fact may be signs of an underlying mood disorder.
Diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder
Like other mental illnesses, bipolar disorder cannot yet be identified physiologically—for example, through a blood test or a brain scan. Therefore, a diagnosis of bipolar disorder is made on the basis of symptoms, course of illness, and, when available, family history. The diagnostic criteria for bipolar disorder are described in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders, fourth edition (DSM-IV).3
Well from all that you just wrote here, she probably was.
Yeah, she definitely was rude. She'd lived a very unhealthy lifestyle. She'd tell anyone about her lifetime as an alcoholic and how she and her x-husband would get "schnockered".
Quote: What I do know is that I took offence to you calling anyone who is moody around you *Bi Polar*
I don't think I call anybody who is moody around me bipolar.
