Maybe this will stir up some emotion on this board. I don't generally show much interest in Politics, but i do like to know what is happening now and again. Those interested please feel free to comment.

Please read this news article from Islam online

- Could this be the start of a campaign to change the President of Egypt? (that was about as PC as i could get - don't want to find myself thrown out of Egypt!)

- Do you think Egypt would welcome the above?

- Could this be America trying to take over Egypt and have us all saying "God bless America!"?

Please comment..... get a debate going! :D

I guess it's you and I kid..one more time...but maybe others will join later or tomorrow..
Ok I read the article; the question is very simple: until Egypt keeps on accepting the Billions US dollars, what else can we expect...

If you compare the situation to some Middle Eastern WIVES....the husband is the provider big time...she gets used to the situation, the kids are very well taken care of, the house is pretty, food abounds...and everything is so beautiful BUT...surprise surprise the husband does not really show up too often, and he does exactly what he pleases...but when the wifey complains..he goes: I'm paying for everything so I'll have it my way!!! The kids are affected they go into drugs and corruption hit home because the one that is paying only cares for his own benefit ONLY, forgetting emotional responsibilities towards his family and giving them their rights but being the guiding light and not the dictator which in turn stirs up fights and discords big time.......

BUT all the billions that are pored into Egypt end up a bit lost in the cracks and the quality of life has not improved as it should have...

So what is the solution in your opinion?
I wonder about the Egyptian Think Tanks...how do they figure a way out?
How will Egypt become self sufficient??? if ever...and if it cannot, how to distribute the Billions to improve the life of the Middle and lower classes or at least to create decent employment...and raise the economical situation that is deteriorating daily...and how do we take from the US but tell them not to interfere in the policy of the country? and also how do we absolutely get the democratic system going without the help of the outsider?
HMMMM...????

Monica

You are right.... as long as Egypt keeps accepting the dollars....... Ha money does not even seem to be helping the overall problems. The Middle East wives comparison was a good one!

I have a few ideas/opinions about the suject but must go soon. So will post after the weekend. I also need to clarify a statistic a friend told me about regarding the average time that Egyptians spend working compared to the rest of the world. All i can remember is that it was an appalling figure! If anyone has heard about this please post.

In brief (without the statistic) he told me that some Egyptians will work, rip the person off for the price of a job i.e. a plumber and then when he has made enough he will stop working until the money is finished then start again!

This i believe is a big problem area, in my short time living here i have noticed that the trend seems to be for short term gains.... what happened to thinking in the long term? Charge your customers little so that they will return AND bring friends and family! Isn't that a good business principle?

Anyway much much more that can be said.... insha'allah i will be back on Monday. Have a good weekend all!

And that's why many analysts think the Egyptian government does not really move except by the American pressures ... It is true ... unfortunately.

Zakirah, the link you have provided repeats itself every time President Mubarak visits the United States.
While the Egyptian government keeps on telling outside work they have free press and they can't interfere in it, the government wants to stop such campaigns from US papers.

Quote: the husband is the provider big time...she gets used to the situation, the kids are very well taken care of, the house is pretty, food abounds...and everything is so beautiful BUT...surprise surprise the husband does not really show up too often, and he does exactly what he pleases...but when the wifey complains..he goes: I'm paying for everything so I'll have it my way!!! Monica ... you are amazing. Your example is very close to the fact. After all, the United States feels the fact that it is paying gives her the right to ask "what did you do with the money?"

And when the United States put forward the Greater Middle East initiative, Egypt –I mean Egyptian government- has shown its weapons to destroy the idea:
1- The plan meant to merge Israel into the region.
2- The plan will give Islamists the chance to sneak into the government.
3- The plan is a new US order to re-draw the Middle East.

After that, won’t you expect people to freak out!!!!!!
There is no whatsoever technical discussion of the contents of the plan.

Girls, I have an idea: you ask any Egyptian:
What do you think of the Greater Middle East plan?
He/she may answer: I don't like it.
Ask him again: What specific point/article in the plan you did not like most?

And gla gla gla ... you will discover everybody hates it without even reading it once. It is hate to everything USA produces.

Think-Tank analysts in generality accept reforms -actually any reforms-, but how shall they tell the government when it refuses to listen!!!

One more thing: Mubarak has been advocating the adoption of reforms but gradual ... hahaha .... I just want to know what "gradual" means!
Because his Information Minister has recently stated reform is indeed an ongoing process since Mohamed Ali (ruled 1805-1848 AD).
I hope that doesn't mean further 200 years ... or may be the government would come up with the following announcement:
"Dear citizens of Egypt ... We would like to bring you the news that the reforms would be gradually concluded by the next millennium ... Ma'lesh have patience people! ... say inshallah!"

kollo 3and el-3arab sapoun

Strange ... between the Egyptian "government" and the American "administration" ya qalby la ta7zan (don't be sad my heart).
