What do you Hedgy want yourself? Why should you follow his lead and listen to what he says what you should do? Isn't too much to take?
It is not so fast. We have been chatting every day for almost a year now. I have been to stay in Egypt for several weeks, to see if I could adjust to a different lifestyle.
I am not following what he says. I had come to a stage in my life where I wanted to do something very different from my safe mundane little world. My sons had got married, I had worked ten years to get them through university. So I was my turn to think about ME
He has put his thoughts forward, and if I dont agree with them I say so, and we discuss things .....

My Love tries to be *more western* when it comes to me... is this the same with you?

8) Yes Hedge considering at what point you are in your life, what have you got to loose , boys are safe and taken care off , you seem to have reached a financially plateau you are happy /satisfied with, all you need now is a companion to share and give to .
It looks like both believe the hunt is over, so why not ?
You could gain so much , and you do not have the luxury of waiting a few years but I was wondering.....
Why get married ?
Why not rent an apartment close by(to him) for a year and take it from there?
 He could be your Arabic teacher ( to tell the neighbours)
At least if it all Does go belly up ,it will be easier to untangle yourself from him ???
 |

Winky......
I am still turning over the thought of getting married for a third time, I have also siad this to my friend. I have also said that I would prefer for us to live together. He follows his faith quite strongly, and would not consider Orfi.
I will have to discuss further I said I would not RUSH into anything. I would like to choose somewhere to live first. this will be for me and my sons as a 'holiday home', and he would be welcome to live there.
The only problem in Cairo is we keep being stopped by police, and he has to show his papers, they think I may be with him against my will.
When we went to the pyramids the taxi driver and himself had to get out of the car ...they said nothing to me
BUT, one step at a time, recently I have been following instinct and it has chosen well for me.....................time will tell
If I teach I would like to 'polish' the people who can speak a little English. It would appear in Cairo English is taught by Egyptions who have not been out of the country, to experience 'proper' English. I noticed this very much when listening to the radio and watching TV, the pronoucation is sooooo funny    |

:) Hedge,
I believe you should listen to your instinct again and not get married if only for the first 3 months in Cairo. :) (Preferably allot longer!
:) Really it is so final and it is not as if you know each other inside out .
( Or thats is the impression I have )
I have lived in Muslim cultures and believe me for a woman like you , who is used to take her own decisions and is her own boss .....well uhmmmm....I can see troubles ahead .
It is of vital importance that you learn Arabic at least enough to understand what is going on when you are at his family .
Hwy not start your life in Cairo , learning Arabic and teaching English and hold off ( your marriage) for a bit ??
You do not need to get Orfi Papers if you choose your apartment in the right area ( where lots of ex pats live )and indeed if he pretends to be your Arabic teacher you can still meet etc.
Contact the big foreign Companies they are always looking for good English teachers to train their staff
You could already do that while you are in UK
8) I believe you are right in taking the plunge, that is, moving away from your safe mundane world (as you said)
I am all for being adventurous, a whole new world and opportunities in front of you Hedge 8) and you might find it a little scary but I would be surprised if you would regret it one day , my experience is that it takes on average three months to get used to a new Country/surrounding' s and to start to feel reasonably comfortable
 One more question Hedge....How do you know you are not wife NR. FOUR ???

Hi Hedgehog, I have been reading your interview with great interest.
From someone who has lived a 'safe' life, I say, go for it! You deserve happiness in your life and if this man is making you happy, why not. I know how difficult it can be in some cities, Luxor was the same with the police stopping 'mixed couples', that doesn't seem to happen here in Hurghada.
Yes life will be strange at first, but we humans are so adaptable. If someone had told me 3 years ago I would be living here, I would have laughed. Ours was a quick decision, and yes there are days I hanker aftr my old life, but then I shake myself and ask 'why?'.
You have brought up your sons to be independent men and now it is your turn to lead your life the way you want. No matter where you are in the world, your boys will always know where you are.
Oh go I am rambling again, Hedgehog I am waiting for the next installment. Whatever you decide to do, good luck. :thumleft: |
