In El Ahram news paper Mr. Ibrahim Hegazy writes an article about sport every Friday. And at the end of the article he writes a column or two about some heroes who defended Egypt by their souls . Especially in the time of the Egyptian war with Israel to free the occupied land ( Sinai ) . Mr. Hegazy has an aim while writing these articles. And his aim is to let the youth know about these stories that teach them what does it mean to love your country, your Egypt !!!
When we should know that Mr. Hegazy was an army officer during the 6th of October 1973 war. And also he is disappointed by the national teams results , especially the football team! So he thinks that they must learn how to love their country first, in order to know how to act in matches and be winners . So he decided to write about those who loved Egypt payed their lives with nothing in return.
I read his articles every Friday . And lately, I decided to translate them. And put them here in this forum . To let All read them, Egyptians and non Egyptians . My translation is humble . But I will do my best to convey the message clearly.
Its just an image to let us know about those people who died for Egypt . For sometimes some youth say " what I took from Egypt to love Egypt ?" !!!!............... . Well I heard that from some of my dear friends. Who were surprised because they heard me saying that I love Egypt with all of my heart. And I expected nothing from Egypt. I just want to give. I couldn't convince them to love Egypt like me . But at least, I must do something like to highlight these stories about Egyptians gave their lives to defend the Egyptian land. They left their wives and kids behind, and threw themselves in danger and death for Egypt with no hesitation !
One of my dear friends told me one day, that if Egypt entered any war, and he went to army to serve and died while fighting, he will not be a martyr . Because only if defending Islam ,you can be a martyr !!!........ I couldn't reply !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then I went to my father who was a new graduate from the faculty of war, second lieutenant , during the October war 1973. Asked him if that true?!...... He told me Hadeeth Shareef, a saying for prophet Mohammad , prayers and peace upon him.
It is a bout, anyone who defend his land or his money or his honor , is certainly a martyr . So, if an Egyptian in the October 1973 war was fighting to get his land back is a martyr. Also , if he was defending his right to get back his money, which was represented by the oil and other crude materials in Sinai, that he is certainly a martyr . Last but not least, if he is defending his honor , his sister , his wife and his mother for not being hurted by any kind of occupation ( like those young girls raped in Iraq, Abou Gheryb prison), he is a martyr !!!!!!
On the other hand, I'm not urging an Egyptian to die for Egypt. Because simply, we are now in peace. We have no kind of occupation. And I always repeat the best said by President Mubarak : " The Egyptian army is only there to defend the Egyptian land". But my aim here is to let everyone of us here to relearn how to love Egypt. And know how others loved Egypt. Whatever can make us disappointed now in our country .Our love to Our Egypt must not be less.
Finally, I think its my duty to do something for Egypt. Even it is just to translate stories of Heroes who gave their lives to Egypt along the history. Especially, in this period near of 1973 and before for some few years. Be cause conditions are in some how similar . So as no one can have a pretext to say that this era is different !!! .And I don’t offend any kind of culture or government while mentioning an enemy we used to have or may be still have . I just recall some people's actions due to their love to their country with no reference to our relations with others in the past or now or in the future.
All in all, I hope I can help !
Thanks for time . |

Ms Lolyloop
GoodEvening first
Then I should start with: Baraka Allah Fiky (God Bless You)
I too a regular reader of the Ahram editor Ibrahim Hegazy. Specially in these days after we lost Editor of Barid Ahram: Abdel Wahab Metawei, Rahmoto Allah Aliahe.
I agree with you that Egypt is facing tough time internally and externally as well. We have a lot of unemployed youngsters doing nothing and our Government should think of creative solutions away from the American Recipes. Our younger generation is drained in watching Free Wrestling and the Divas Wrestelers undressing each others. Our youngsters are far from a challenging spirit not to be conquered without Battles, to dig for a living with the few thousands they manage to collect before the Midetereanean waves get them to the bottom in their attempts to escape to Europe.
So our youth need to listen to the stories of how the genereation of Ibrahim Hegazi spent 7 and up to 10 years entirely in the cruel desert eating sands among his daily poor food but waiting for the order to cross the Canal and fight the Israelis to get Sinai back to the Egyptians.
I feel depressed as I see the youngsters Soft and Burning their youthful strength with the Shisha smoking,
instead I wish to see All of them with Strong Spirit and Will to think seriously and share in shaping their future,
not only by sales of multinationals products/ promotions of Multinational products but to have creative products of their own as well.
my generation dreamed to manufacture/indusrilize Egypt and did with awful destruction of the Egyptian environment. Your generation should concentrate on new after indusrilization approach,
my generation (Ibrahim Hegazi too) is exhausted and about to leave the theater to new actors/actresses;
Wish only the Honest to our Egypt not America manage to Lead and Succeed.
Amen |

Ms Lolyloop
GoodEvening
Please allow me to know your opinion about something I read in an Egyptian Newspaper (not Barid El Ahram), written by youngmen:
(It is printed in my memory and I keep thinking/analysing it)
We are a group of 5 young Egyptian men graduated from the university a couple of years ago, unemployed, wishing the government to offer us a piece of land "close" to the governerate we live in! So we can cultivate it and make a living out of it.
The Editor just wrote: To the Minister of Agriculture hoping a reply!
Well, actually not well, but it's sad to find that "close" to in their request.
They want an offer with one condition not from the government side but set by them, to have a piece of land Free of charges and close to their home!
I keep wondering about those Israeli Settlers and how they Plant their bodies and soul in the stolen Palestinean lands and then live in a hostile surroundings and eventually the Palestineans have to accept the reality on Land and accept afterwards to work as hourly waged labor on the same land that was theirs. How the Israelis manage to complete this cycle?
Answer: The Will / the Determination to have a Dream fulfilled.
Same thing with the American Settlers Advancing All the time further West and South from NewEngland pushing the Indians and the Mexicans respectively out of their Lands through a combination of Bloody Battles and Playful Negotiations. But eventually they Won the Conquest for Lands by Iron Determination and the Will to sacrifice the soul if necessary.
In that Letter to the Editor; the 5 Egyptian young men - in my opinion- do not deserve even One square meter of any land.
They - to me - appear as what I call a "soft" generation, a generation that was told: Egypt has a house, a piece of land, a car to every young man wanting to raise a family (Sadat a little short before his assasination), as long as we are in Piece with Israel and accept being Dependent on Mama America. We have the Sun / the long extended Beaches that will let the Tourist industry enrich every Egyptian House(Sadat continued).
Result: 2 or 3 generations with limited Dreams to be just Servants (Waiters/Chef/Captain in restaurants and nightclubs), or in the best they can achieve: Sales Representatives/ Promotion Agents for the MultiNationals.
Compare me as I wrote before in this Forum:
All I achieved is a GM for Laboratories and Research in an Oil Company & PhD in Petroleum Geochemistry,
but I feel I should have been a Discoverer of New Frontiers in Science and Technology like Prof Zoweil
That should have been my Dream, I should have worked on this one,
Not to be a Parasite on another foreign Culture wishing to belong to it (still an intellectual ambition but now I severly regret it).
Usually; old men like to say to each other: we were so and so compared to the younger generations, this has been happening , I think, through
out the entire human history,
but I am saying it to you, the young and lover of Egypt:
Do you agree with how I look at the younger generations? or you can have a different view that I am not able to see.
thanks in advance.
Salam

Mr SS
I agree with u to some extant. But we cant say that all the young generations want the easy things and in the easy way.
we can see the two kinds.
but this may be , in my point of view, due to the media revolution. they see in the hundrends of channels in t.v, all people sing, play, take lots of money. drive the most expensive cars. they others live a perfect life. they have everything and in the easy way. singers. actors, football players!!!
Also we cant forget about those people who claim that they support islam and convey the Islam messages and wants to spread the real Islam to the get to be a real moslem. they talk to the young generation in a bad way, as i can say that they erase their brains and let them think in s differnt way, that cant go along with this era!!!!!! like going bact to be simple and work simple things, and be ambitious only to seek the paradise after we die. as they mean prepare for ur death. and forget all about this life we live in!!!....
many factors SS that leads this generation to the wrong way and this way of indifference !!!
but still i can say that there are some young people who are good in religion and in culutre and ambitious, and hardworker. and they dont give up also :)
All in all, i want to say that , i hope that this generation make somthing valuable to Egypt. and be stronger to face anything can harm our minds and all our future for the future of our Egypt. |
