Was leaving Egypt and Living in a foreign country a good Idea?
In theory it was , but I did not leave for any well defined reason.
I left primarily because I was told of how the great life in the "West" is and how free one would be, everything was suppose to come to me...Money, Sex and yes even "Fame".
Of course everything turned out to be harder, but I was determined to work hard to get all those things, and as time went by those things became less Important and I had this dilemma of "No Goal"......
I have traveled thousands of Miles and Lived as Stranger in a Strange Land, only to find out that all I want was back in Egypt.
Would I do it again?
Without a doubt.
Would I do it differently
Most Definitely.
I know many Egyptian Men wishing they could leave Egypt for better work Opportunity and better Life in general and wonder if they know what I know now ......would they still want to leave. |

Of course it's easy for me to say now that I have the choice.
The problem back then was the feeling of a life being wasted, I had all this energy and potential, all I needed was a chance. any chance and I could prove I was more than capable of hard work and "Being Somebody".
I stood by on the corner of the street every night with many of my friends who were in exactly the same situation, No Work.....just dreams.
Sadly , the same problems still Do Exist today, and those with dreams will travel to the Dark Side of The Moon to make them come true...only to find out that "There's no darks side in the moon really...at the matter of fact it's ALL DARK" |

Just remember that the only difference between a dream and a goal, is a time span.
Are you in England or continental Europe? |

"It's the Economy Stupid" (not you monica)
I don't see how you could convince someone that he/she should stay in Egypt while they have zero chance of finding work or improving their lives in a Substantial way.
You know what, I'm somewhat sympathetic to those Gigolos and Con-Artists who prey on unsuspecting women to get what they can NOT otherwise accomplish on their own. They are unemployed and constantly being bombarded by western advertisements of what the "Good Life" is like and what they’re missing.

You liked my maxim - good. Now act on it. Give your more easily attanable dreams a time span - make them goals achieve them one by one.
You might be homesick and fed up but at least you are not in a dirt floor hovel on the WEst Bank sharing your living space with goats and a cow - and before anyone has a go at me, yes that is how my beighours live/lived. |

Hello to all...
I always ask myself, would foreign women accept to be in the same situation in their own country, as they voluntarily put themselves in, when in Egypt for example?
Regading health hazards, working conditions, neighborhood, relationships, social surroundings etc..etc..
People leaving Egypt for example...Immigrants...do accept jobs in other countries regardless of their qualifications, that they would maybe NOT accept in their own...and do accept different living conditions that is a fact but there is a goal and an objective to get out of these conditions for a better tomorrow and a passport that would open other doors...and in many cases...I have no percentages but hear it all the time..they want to go back in Egypt and apply their expertise within their own country ( not enough of those but I'm hopeful) or even to retire and /or invest their acquired money in Egypt for example...
Let's say that you - as a foreigner - can afford a better life do you choose for example a lesser one because you need to feel in touch with the other side of the track??
What makes people from other countries settle in surroundings that extremely poor, for example in Egypt, but not in theirs??
What's the idea?
These are only questions out of curiosity...because where I come from/Egypt/ we are brain washed to protect ourselves, to always be dignified, to struggle and educate ourselves to the maximum in order to always have a good quality of life...it is very much emphasized upon us to always work 'legally' for a better tomorrow...if the country does not provide opportunities we are brought up to be creative, and do any type of 'decent' work in the meantime...or try and get work outside of it based on our education..in other Arab countries or else..always in mind that education is free in Egypt...
And then there's lazyness..................... lazy minds and bodies.............. a mass production of lazy human beings is existant to the maximum...
Let's discuss..............if you'd like...

No way Monica. I would never have lived in the same conditions in England. There were animals, flies, scorpions and rats. There were dirt floors, and no internal sanitation or water supply. In England the place would have been condemned as unfit for human habitation. I lived in it both before and after it was moderised. What made me accept this? As usual I have no idea. It was certainly novel and interesting though.
In England people go camping. Through choice they put up a tent in a field and live in it for a week, sleeping on the floor and cooking on a small stove. It is cold, damp and uncofortable but it is supposed to be a leisure holiday. I used to go camping regularly. Living in the unmodernised house was similar to that camping. The English are wierd.
I now have a six bedroom, two bathroom flat without pigeons flying through it or chickens wandering about. There are no goats on the stairs or kittens under the chairs. It is beautiful but the first flat was the most exciting because it was so different from anything that I was used to and I knew that I could always return to my English home if things got too bad. There was more laughter in the first flat too. |

In England people are a wee bit snobby. But I like the accents. |

| I have a very 'posh' accent - (comes from being a uliversity lecturer for so long) but I can hardly be classed as snobby after all the daft things I did and the 'slums' I lived in. |

Monica:
You might be right - but I just wish I knew what that reason was.
I spend half my time feeling stupid and the rest feeling brave. I am also split between feeling totally inept (and a waste of space as a human being) and being in control of my own destiny. confusing. |
