I have been reading alot about the new custom law on cars and the new Chinese cars getting into the Egyptian Market...
Does that mean our cars are getting cheaper?
Is the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) covering cars when it comes into operation in Egypt?
Are we gonna be better off with the GATT? How will the Egyptian products/ commodities be protected/ balanced against other competing forces? |

Last Tuesday, President Hosni Mubarak approved several steps aimed at simplifying customs procedures and cutting the average tariff rate from 14.6 per cent down to nine per cent on around 6,500 imported items, bringing down the customs ceiling from some 104 per cent to 40 per cent.
Custom tariffs on cars with an engine capacity of 1600cc have been brought down dramatically from a steep 104 per cent to 40 per cent.
Now, it is time that local traders will be forced to lower their prices to compete with the cheaper imports.
While the decision will keep consumers happy, it might upset some manufacturers whose products will face shoulder-to- shoulder competition with imported goods. :cry: |

How about consumers who bought cars in their highest rates in the last year 'n' a 1/2?
Would they benefit from all that's going on with this new custom law thing? |

| How will they benefit? They already bought their cars khalas. They bought a product that was worth 100 and today it's worth 70. |

Adoula if it makes you feel any better you can think of it as a whole. It's not just your car that has lost some of its value but the whole market went down so if you decide to change your car you will sell it with a cheap price and buy another one with a cheap price. And anyway BMW won't be affected very much with all this ;) |

i never heard of any chinese car at all...care to share the details ? is it with benzine bardo ? or 7ahraba ? suggested price ?? 1000 LE maslan ?

A friend o' mine told me it will be for L.E 34000 (Full Option)...Not sure though! |
