Egyptian woman turns tables on male polygamy

CAIRO

An Egyptian woman has been arrested for polygamy after one of her husbands found she had been married to two other men, with whom she also had children, police said last Tuesday.

Under Egyptian and Islamic law, a man may marry up to four women, but a woman is permitted no more than one husband.

Suleiman Attiyeh, an expatriate worker living in a Gulf Arab country, learned recently that his wife of three years, Amal Mustafa Ali, 36, had married another man before him, with whom she had two children.

Police then found during interrogation that Amal, who had given Suleiman Attiyeh one son, had married another man in an Orfi (customary) marriage and given birth to a girl. Such marriages are conducted before two witnesses and are undocumented.

Amal, who was arrested last Sunday in the northern Cairo neighborhood of Ain Shams, will go on trial in a family court this week, police said.

They said Attiyeh caught his wife when he followed her to the home of her first husband, after she had raised suspicions by repeatedly asking to spend nights with her family despite Attiyeh's long absences in the Gulf.

It was not clear whether each man knew which children were his. Nor did the police say whether the other husbands had assumed all the children were their own, or whether they had failed to notice Amal's pregnancies for reasons not disclosed.

In another case of a woman accused of polygamy, a newspaper here reported last August that 32-year-old Sabah Abdel Kader had been arrested for being married to five men at the same time.

I thought about the A L I M O N Y ...after she starts a divorce PARTy..one by one.. many many cheques...

A woman gets only ONE year Alimony/Mot3a nafa a/ under Islamic law...so that was a tRiCk maybe !!!

I can’t imagine how a woman can do this step again in her life “marriage” & how can she give birth to more than one child .. wala ana fiah 7aga moush mazbouta !!!! :shock: :shock:
AND what on earth she finds it interesting in hubbies to go for more than one ??
I see if there’s someone who do this … so she’s doing it for MONEY nothing else!!
She deserve to be hanged fi medan Ibrahim basha … (one of our famous squares in Egypt) Coz she will make her children live the shame of her stupid actions all their lives long!! Poor kids …

I think it's a crazy idea to have more than one wife or more than one husband.

I would imagine it would be like a split personalty.

Living a few different lives at the same time :shock:

Then again we are all different

What do you mean? Women get pregnant once and they don't want to stop it ba3d keda if they could :lol:

I can't understand ... do you mean women like to give birth many times & it's much easier after the first time ??

ya carousha momken giving birth easier the second time and the third kaman.. but not for all women.. and some women apparently don't have any signs ..but RARE of course that they are pregnant..miracles baa.. :roll: :roll:

a second marriage after one is over is ok.. but marrying all these men at the same time ..leih baaa..it is SICK...how can a woman LOVE so many at the same time..unless she is not normal..

about the children... perhaps it's because she couldn't convince the husbands to use "birth control" or maybe she doesn't know enough about it herself :?

but it can and does happen that some women can go through a full term without realising that they were indeed pregnant.... :shock:

and perhaps, perhaps it has more to do with Sex and Money than Love :(

one thing for certain: she is a brave and cunning woman!
