is bloody boring :smt015 can't get into it at all.......

If you start a book and you're not getting into it, do you persevere and struggle on to the end, or just give up?

I see you have given up leaving here Moll. Well I am throwing my 'enlightenment' halo on the well worn hook of procrastination.

I find that problem of reading a book when I read the bible. I look at my backdoor(that hook that seems to have all my good intentions hanging on it) and see it always has something hanging on it.if it was hanging on my shoulders instead well maybe something would happen:)

As for any other book, why persevere unless it makes you feel something....what are you reading?...calculus made difficult or something!

Given up leaving till the next full moon

Well, the book I'm reading is one of those 'women's' books, I don't do anything heavy in the holidays....it's called The Friday Night Knitting Club

This is what it says on the back:

These women are of different ages, from different backgrounds and facing different problems, but they are drawn together by threads of affection that prove as durable as the sweaters they knit

I thought that sounded quite promising......but I'm on page 54 and I'm fed up

Quite likely it is not the knittimg they do but the talking they do while knitting. I mean, to get into such a club in the first place must take desperate measures

Well Moll I know our situations are entirely different, i.e. you can pick and choose your books, I am just grateful for what my reps bring me from the tourists.

I am reading a PD James at the moment and boy does it put me to sleep. Her writing is so bloody pedantic, her descriptions totally superfluous - when describing a dead body, is it really necessary to go on about the wind and the stars?

Afraid I am stuck with it as the supply has dried up for now, even my woman who gets the newspapers is away on holiday!

Love your wolf by the way.

Harrison........you know you can get most of the UK newspapers and magazines online now? another reason to get your home connection sorted out

Roughshod, do you sit and read the Bible? I have to admit, I haven't looked at a Bible for years and years, well apart from reading stories to the kids at school...

Yes Moll I know and as you say once the connection is sorted out I will be well away.

I enjoy going to the shop though as she has a really little gem, not only does she sell papers and magazines but also has a pet food section (that was the original shop) and has also started selling second hand books.

Of course Mr. C jumped on that and said we could take some of mine in and do a swop. I hate giving away my books, this is a hangover from my childhood days when I used to get a book for Christmas and oh boy was it ever treasured.

I do enjoy getting a few chapters read when I go to bed at night but last night I read 2 pages and put the book down - couldn't be bothered.

I used to hate giving away books too, I'm such a hoarder

But now as soon as I've read them, I take them to the charity shop because I hardly ever read books twice so it's a bit pointless keeping them.

Anyway the thing about starting that book (although I probably won't finish it) is.....it's actually made me think about taking up knitting again  I used to enjoy knitting baby things (for my own when they were small, and for friends' babies), I'd never have sat down to watch TV without knitting needles in my hands, it was quite therapeutic :?

My daughter was telling me the other day that one of her friends knits baby stuff for one of the charities, going to get the address and the patterns and have a go at it...

We do have a lot in common. I was the same with my knitting, Mr. C could never understand how I could knit and watch t.v. at the same time.
The quality of wool I can get here is not good so have only knitted one time since I came here to live.

Harrison, I've just found a knitting smilie and this makes me happy, but I know it also makes me quite a sad person to be so happy about finding a knitting smilie

Anyway, I just had a brainwave :cyclopsani: I could knit MYSELF a bigger version of the baby hat, only in more sophisticated colours, then when I go out in the wind and rain, I wouldn't look like I'd been dragged through a hedge..........I don't know why I didn't think of this before.

Okay Moll why don't you knit yourself one? By more sophisticated colours, what exactly did you have in mind? Sky Blue Pink perhaps!

I brought over with me a sleeveless waistcoat which is great for wearing over strappy t-shirts in hot weather here. it is now too tatty to wear. I have searched on the internet but just cannot find a free pattern that is anywhere near similar. God I am so frustrated at the moment with the clothes issue.

Well, DAMMIT

I quickly knitted you a jumper while I was having my cup of tea this morning Harrison, just to cheer you up....but it says something about the maximum file size is reached, dunno what that means

It's really nice too :smt022
