An earthquake that was 5.4 just hit south California. I work in the 3rd floor in a building. We evacuated and then we were told we could go home for the day. The file room was 2 feet deep in files that fell out of the cabinets. I was talking on the phone when it hit, and my tea spilled all over the desk and me. It was shaking so badly. :smt119 =D>

Saw it on BBC World this morning. It said that whilst the building were shaken there was no damage and no report of injuries.
Thank heavens the US knows how to build and have learnt from their mistakes of the past when they would have come tumbling down like a pack of cards.

Glad to hear you are okay.

I went to work today as usual but nobody was there. So I called my supervisor and she said to go home, that the building needs to me checked for damage. So I have another day off. I hope I get paid for all this time off, since it was due to an earthquake.

If you turned up ready and willing to work, and it was THEIR decision not to allow you, I don't see how they could refuse to pay you....

Yes exactly, but the manager of our department has been on vacation this week, so it's a bit unorganized. Then I got a call at noon saying they are there and I could come in if I want. I didn't and left them a message saying I'd already been there and will see them tomorrow. Apparently the claims adjusters have cleaned up the file room. Wow what a job. I sort of took a vacation day, went to the gym, visited a friend, shopped a bit. And I can stay home and play with my new kitty.
