Quite an astute observation Moll, but you missed the fact that for even trying to insult me for whatever reason would usually get me going :)
So you may do what you like, say what you like, but it seems I have finally become immune to what others think of me (WEll , those not directly part of realtime life...those that are just spectres of my imagination).
Theres an insult to you you mere shadow in my life ;) |

Well Moll, it seems we would be great together right now, thick skinned .no longer influenced by other's manipulations...we could make a great married couple in a mormon community . just think ...when we got bored we could compare each others children like baseball card collections. Oh yea, I remember her...great daughter...nice photo...
hehe, rambling on am I?.
But now that one is free from what others decide, what does one do next?
Decide for me..'*beep*' .... Just kidding, hope you take it in context. |

Yes, of COURSE I will take it in context, Roughshod
I'm not sure what Mormons have to do with it though........
I was watching a programme on UK TV the other night called Tribal Wives, it was about an English woman who went to live for a month with a Masai tribe in Africa where the men are allowed 10 wives
So strange, that we think our way of living is 'normal'.......When I was growing up I thought EVERYBODY in the world lived like me, that that was just the way it was :? it really came as quite a shock when I discovered that actually, the way I lived would be seen as completely alien to some people... |

Moll.Insult from others quite likely implies oneself is different from them. Normality if it was universal would of course only bring insult were we to deviate from it. But since we judge people every day around us in our own paradigms it will have to be said we are none of us'normalized'.
To be able to live life without insulting others in my opinion is quite likely a very dead way of accepting our normalness (which can be way boring). Perhaps insult provides a spur to kick one into trying to be better than normal? Insult may show up ones shortcoimngs?...or should I say constructive criticism as oppossed to insult is necessary.
Doesn't matter how it occurs...we all need to be kicked out of cocoons of comfort . Whether meanly or with somebody's loving conscideration. |

Maybe you're right, that sometimes people need a kick up the a*se to make them take a real look at themselves and force them out of their comfort zones.
But there's straight talking, and then there's just petty vindictive insults designed to hurt, no other reason for them.
I also think it would be pretty boring if everybody was just all nicey nicey all the time, people DO hold strong views and sometimes things get heated, fair enough, people lose their tempers and there are always going to be people who just don't like each other.......in real life, you've got a choice of biting your tongue, discussing it, or walking away from it, but on the internet there seems to be a fourth choice, get in there and start throwing sh*t, just because the option's there and you don't have to look at the person's face...
Did you (or anybody) ever read the book, Lord of the Flies? |

When it comes to determining whether a disagreement is an insult or directive towards oneself for self improvement quite likely is determined how ones own ego and sense of self belief( and possibly if one perceives the one giving the criticism as clueless or perhaps wise)is willing to allow others to modify it..
There are times when one knows what another is saying could perhaps be true but one also knows they so wrapped up in their own paradigm (one that oneself happens to disagree with in other aspects)that if one agrees with them it will make them think their entire paradighm is succesfull just because it succeeded in one facet.
I tend to hold my tongue in real life when somebody is being belligerent because of some perceived thing I may have done. But if they just start trying to belittle me instead of berating my perceived fault then that is when I usually tell them to shut up and get out of my face. But I usually do not do it that directly, I usually just explain to them what has really happened(as I perceive it) and how they have perhaps misunderstood my efforts and the reasons possibly why I find their outburst so spectacularly unfair, then ask them never to cross my path again if they can help it.
But as you say..there is that 4th option. It actually takes very little effort and mainly plays on ones ego, it actually just needs to be ignored. (after all, it is not part of real life in that sense, it is only made possible by virtual reality...so use virtual reality instead of real life ego to put it into its proper place I would say). |
