Another Wednesday and my 'assistant' has phoned in sick. This is the fourth Wednesday.

My two busiest days of the week are Wednesday and Thursday.

My problem is that she is a really nice girl but I just cannot depend on her. I am having to check all the work she does so therefore end up doing double work.

I am going to have to make the decision of whether to keep her or tell her to go. She has been with me for 7 months and should have a better grasp of the job requirements by now.

Okay that is my moan over for now. :)

Well.....if she is not up to the work get rid of her.....and the same day off each week means she has no loyalty to her work.....

Yes I think you are right Hedgehog. I can't go on like this. I have so much pressure that having to waste time double checking any work she does is putting me under even more stress.

Harrison.........can't you do the verbal warning, followed by written warning, followed by the boot procedure that is done here?

Give her a verbal warning and tell her she's out if she doesn't get her act together.....

I have a classroom assistant who is a really nice woman, but God she's bloody useless.....I'd be quicker asking my 9 year olds to do something for me, they'd be more likely to get it right  I understand your frustration...

I have never had to give any warning to an undesirable employee.

I just cause a gulf to happen between me and him that alienates us further and further apart until he no longer can stand working for me and leaves of his own accord

At least give her a warning, like Moll said.

Just to put everyone in the picture. She started with me back in November. I know there is a lot to learn so I wrote everything, and I mean everything down. From first logging on, printing off the guest complaints, logging them, sending them out etc. I also wrote what to say to the Hotels and what to say to the reps to get comments. She doesn't even follow that. I went over and over things with her time and time again.

I brought back from the UK a card index so have all the necessary contacts written down. Came back from my day off, she had sent mails out a) wrong addresses; b) wrongly spelt the Managers names.

Now I know I am a bit of a perfectionist where my work is concerned but I also asked her to send them out in her name with Assistant to above my name. No she sent them out in my name.

As for giving her a warning. I have given her lots of warnings and every time she assures me that she does want to work with me. She is okay for a day or so, but then back she slides.

Moll: Yes in the UK it was two verbal warnings, one written warning and then you were out. It doesn't work that way here.

Roughshod: Your way is my boss' way. She just cuts people dead, picks fault with little things, and then to really get to them, cuts their incentive.
I am a pretty straight talking person and much prefer the direct approach. Spending 9 hours a day at work with an atmosphere is not good and as I think I have said, my job is pretty high pressure. I say what I think and then give the other person a chance to reply.

The Manager and I spoke yesterday and he told me that she had said she is 'depressed' because she does not have her own tasks. I did explain that there is one account she doesn't want to work with because it is too difficult. Well sorry, but this job does not work that way. We all have to do somethings which we don't particularly enjoy but it is all part and parcel.

Oh god I have rambled on but feel better for getting that lot of my chest.

Never mind it is my day off tomorrow. The snorkelling gear is all set to go, in the back of the car already.

Thanks everyone for your input. Different perspectives can help.

That was what my last boss was like (aka the B*tchBoss from hell) and it just about drove us all crazy.....you never knew who was in favour and who was out of favour, you never had a flippin clue what she was thinking, you just got the 'vibes' if it was your turn, even though you had no idea what it was she thought you'd done wrong...I much prefer the direct approach too.

Hope you enjoyed your day off anyway, I have one week of school to go then I'm FREEEEEEEEE :sunny: :bball: :smt041

Hi Moll,
Are you going anywhere nice for your hols?

I was so busy yesterday that I don't feel as if I have had a day off. The good thing though was that I managed to buy a vegetable steamer. Instructions are hilarious because although it is a Sanyo it is made in China. Never mind finally worked it out.

I know where you are coming from Moll, every week, 'she who must be obeyed' pulls that stunt with one particular person . It hasn't been my turn since I told her it was unacceptable and that if she wasn't happy with my work she could find someone else.

No ways is it my style to 'pick' on people. I warn them verbally and If they do not have the capacity to stick with their appointed responsibility, only then do I mKE MY INTENTION OF THEIR UNDESIREBILITY QUITE NOTICEABLE. sorry, caps again the 'A' is too close to caps lock for excited typing. Though let it be said my company only employs me and at most 3 other people. It needs dedicated people to make it work.

so that is the pardighm I come from

Going to France, Harrison.........bonsoir 8)

My husband is just fed up with all the hassle at airports these days, all the queues at security and everything  so we're driving...

He finds airports boring and stressful, I find sitting in a car on the motorway for hours boring and stressful and I love airports, I love sitting there just watching people  but I'm just looking forward to a change of scenery and getting away from this place for a while.

It could be like here though, wet and horrible (it's Northern France, just across the Channel) but I don't really care, I just want NOT to have to set the alarm for the morning, I just want NOT to have a pile of paperwork to do, I just want NOT to have to listen to people moaning all the time, I just want NOT to have to pretend I'm really, REALLY interested in Dr Who :smt022

Because TOMORROW, I am on holiday :smt041 :flower: :afro:

I do not care about Dr Who and it's quite stressful pretending I do
