|

At the moment, there are serious worries about the possibilty of petrol shortages because of a strike at Grangemouth, the oil refinery that serves most of Scotland, it's been shut down today...and where I live, there's ONE filling station in the whole town :(
I've got about 3/4 of a tankful at the moment, and I'm trying to conserve it and not go anywhere in case I really need it but I'm missing being able to just get out and drive to go and meet somebody, or go shopping or whatever....but of course, the longer term consequences could be a lot worse than that if it goes on for a while.
How much difference would it make to you if you couldn't get petrol? would it affect your work, or would it just mean you had to walk everywhere and be more of a nuisance than anything else? |

well I know it's a bloody boring topic ratty, but I'm TRYING
Anyway, diesel will be affected too, only I suppose since you're a Sassenach it won't affect you...
I might have to walk to work which would probably do me good, except I always have a ton of stuff to carry and it's usually raining  |

ratty, I do not know how much it costs for a litre but I know there was something on the news the other night, about garages milking it and charging £1.30 a litre.......
I just know I'll go crazy if I'm holed up here for weeks or months :smt022

I think i's a disaster for cars to be deprived of fuel, no matter what kinf of fuel it is...It would make me probably use a bike to go to work, but I would have to cycle for miles and miles if I have to go to clients..
I hope the scientists come up with alternatives to petroleum fuel...for the sake of humanity at least |

Hi Hoss
I remember the last time there were petrol shortages here, I think that was maybe about 20 years ago :? and it went on for several weeks...
First of all it was just an inconvenience having to queue up for ages to get any  then it was a bloody nuisance having to walk everywhere   then it really started to bite and you'd go to the supermarket to buy stuff and you'd find they hadn't had a delivery and you couldn't get what you needed...
The refinery where they're haing the dispute gets its oil from the North Sea, but that's not going to last forever
The whole economy is so tied up with oil, no wonder countries who've got it have everybody else over a barrel... |

Hey ratty :) like the new avatar, it suits you :D
Last night we were out for dinner (husband and me), we'd both had a couple of glasses of wine and it's just not worth the risk of losing your licence if you're stopped, so we got a taxi home........
£8!!!!! for a 2 mile, 5 minute journey  that's about 80LE, or I think about $15 or something, I was NOT happy.. |

Here in the O.C. is about $3.80 a gallon, I thought. It takes about $40 to fill up my tank. Lots of people commute to work here. I don't have that far to drive to work, thankfully. |

| I paid $24 this morning for gas, and my tank is only 1/2 full. This gives me a good reason to stay home. |
