Yeah kamar, what is it with the ...........? I noticed that you'd started a topic called Merry Xmas, I didn't post in it because it's not Xmas for another week, but I was going to when it gets nearer :(
Sometimes I edit things I've written because i realise that they were actually ****ing idiotic  but I don't understand why you'd edit 'Merry Xmas' :?
Anyway Merry Christmas when it comes, and Happy Eid to any Muslims/Egyptians who are still reading YE. |

Tbilisi, sunny Tbilisi, is in the Caucases mountains. It is the home of Gergian charcho, a special soup.
Tbilisi is 1500 years old. The old part of town is so darn charming, beautiful
city. You would not believe it that they had a civil war in early to mid 1990s.
It has beautiful nature, mountains, sea, ski resorts, sunny weather, wonderful warm people, delicious food. The streets are cobbled, houses have unique Georgian balconies. You should see a huge stone wall of authentically ancient and it is along the river, right above it Pretty much right across it there is Patriarch's residence. And along that well there are old and new houses. You can still buy one for $300K, just imagine soon these will be $1 million, I can guarantee you. This city is loved by expats, people rush to ski resorts.
I went to a couple of restaurants. One was an authentic ancient building, stones are 1500 years old, they were never destroyed and kept as they are at this restaurant. I had delicious food. Georgia is known for its cheese sulguni (yummy) and semi-sweet wines such as Kvanchkara (made of unique grapes which are grown in that region only), Kindzmarauli, and plenty more, these are just a few I know. There was such a performance there with national dancing - it was unbelievably fun. The other restaraunt was something else as well. We came but it was closed for filming a movie or a clip so they gave us a private room overlooking that river i mentioned. The dining room had a balcony to look down the river and mountains. Food was delicious. Georgia has lots of natural mineral water springs. They have the best mineral water ever. they make lemonades on this water, the best. In fact, Coca Cola or Pepsi use mineral water as well, and it tastes so much better than usually
Tbilisi has lots of ancient sites, beautiful churches, architecture is so great. they have done their best effort for at least the center look nothing that it was under soviet union ever. What an empire we lost, I was thinking. America did buy many with money including Georgia (hey, why not!!!!) while Russia was stubbornly stupid ruling by intimidation and iron fist. I could not help realizing that perhaps imperial mentality is indeed a bit genetic. The first thing came out of my mouth when I was jaw dropped seeing how beautiful Georgia is and how rich Georgia can be, was We Lost Quite An Empire! THanks America  but really it is our own fault, a few govt higher ups were old stupid and stubborn, when Georgia and others asked help, they would not give money for this and that, and America did. Then what is it to blame? Conspiracy, well thought through plan of disintegration of Soviet union planned by America (come on, are they that smart to plan it out actually - perhaps I do not know, but I tend to think Soviet Union was a stupid machine that really pushed people to the brink economically morally socially - people did want freedom, this naive thirst for freedom was simply taken advantage by those who can package freedom into something marketable and saleable - America does it very well when nothing works  (in fact, it is the main mtkg message and it has been selling like hot cakes) but at the same time America did give money to Georgia and it did have quite a face lift and remake, what people told me at least...Why not, Georgia gained too! Smaller nations tend to lack inertia (unlike owners of a big empire, who develop arrogance and indifference even to their own culture, but arrogance they own theirs and that of others'), so no wonder why freedom is so cherished...
Cannot wait to come back to Tbilisi this weekend before jet setting to MOscow
I am flying.. One car trip through the Caucases ranges from Armenia was enough
Globalization makes the world smaller, but it also should bring is unique cultures, their authenticity at least in things which people can appreciate easily - food, music, etc. Globalization if used as another empire building mechanism threatens freedoms in other ways. It sells SAMENESS - McDonalds, Coca Cola, etc, instead of making unique cultural things be known more to the world. Georgia has world class wines (by far better than French), mineral water to die for, cheeses. Yet globalization is an opportunity, for this cultural things to become unique novelties people would travel distance to experience exclusively in that place - and that it is the value added thingy you can charge more for !!!! 8) Sorry I realy love business 8) things like exclusive wines, eco-tourism, should not be widely commercialized, they should be WIDELY KNOWN and made exclusively located in these places, not necessarially exclusively available  - sure, come and visit  This is how you CHARGE PREMIUM 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) :P :P :P :P

Well that's interesting, Ricky the business guru :D
I can't pretend to understand all the politics and history of the place, but it sounds like it's a great opportunity for your entrepreneurial skills....
To be honest, when you said Tbilisi, I just got a kind of picture in my head of a soviet/communist bloc type of place, all functional and soulless  it's nice to know i was wrong.
But anyway kamar, NOW I can say Merry Christmas , that's because I'm on holiday and I'm really happy about that because I feel bloody exhausted trying to keep these kids from exploding with excitement for the last week |

Isn't it a wonder Ricky that your soul reckognizes the charm of that red lorry yellow lorry place, and that capitilism seems to recognize it also though perhaps in a perverted way and the inperialistic culture that it was part of never recognized what you in your own soul did....that the people are warm, that the food is good, that the place seems enchanting.
In my opinion capitilism does recognize what drives others to want to part with their money but their understanding does not go beyond their brains towards their hearts where it will heal them of the need to continually make money for something that their souls need...acceptance as a human race towards each other.
When I look upon those I love, money becomes secondary. If I walk into a place built by somebody else and I sense the history behind it, I just look at it and wonder what these people lived for, what did they love, why are they no longer here. Did something special dissappear because of greed, did it start out of love?
Or perhaps their own suspicions that they need to appease some god or something maybe wiped any form of inability to fear and continue to grow upon what they started
Maybe we fear ourselves to extinction trying to find a holy grail that does not realize that we all fear. Maybe globilization is good in that respect that we become unified in fearing one thing and united in fighting it.
Of course we will culturally be different in fearing our own brand of fear and fighting others who fear theirs so I suppose that will never happen. but making money is something everybody understands, the more you have the less you need to care about others fears :(
Quite distastefull |

BobBoss, it's so nice to see you posting here :smt058 I was just thinking about you last night, believe it or not........
The reason WHY I was thinking about you was, I'm going to Istanbul for a few days on Friday, and I was just wondering if there were Turkey boards, like there are Egypt boards, bcs I was wondering what it would be like at New Year and whether everything would be closed.......
So anyway there are probably loads of them, but the only one I actually bothered to look at was the Lonely Planet one, and it made me think :-k It made me realise why this board is so dead, it's got nothing to do with saffron and me and ****ing stupid catfights........it's because there are NO Egyptians here, there are NO topics about Egypt, it's just a bunch of people blethering on to each other and not making much sense either :batman: THAT'S what's wrong with it, and then I was just thinking about the Egyptians who used to post here.....
and that's why I was thinking about you :geek: |
