Moll,

I do not know the exact and correct answer to this question. Russia has always been heading its own way. It is an unpredictable enigma which hopes for the best and does nothing, and when it does it is too little too late.

Elderly people are for sure worse off. Middle aged – it all depends. Overall, it is hard and they are worse off. Young people are better off.

Prices for necessities such as food, clothes, household items in Moscow or St Petersburg or just a regional town are just as expensive or more expensive than they are in world cities. You can buy cheaper food and necessities in USA than you will in Russia, while average salary in Moscow is $1000 a month, an average salary in other places in Russia is $500 a month. You can buy a villa on the Iberian coast cheaper or a luxury 21st century architercture and convenience in Chicago than you can buy an old dirty ala Kuruchev apartment in downtown Moscow.

There are very rich people in Moscow. All downtown Moscow is rented out for big money which goes into the pockets untaxed. People who have money throw money left and right as if it is a feast the night before the bubonic plague, thus prices soar through the roof for the rest. Easy money is loved. Intermediary business, hassling, and scams are a common reality in every day life in Moscow.

Record world oil prices helped Russia to recover from the 1998 crisis, war in Iraq helped Russia to pay off debts of the 90s and build stabilization funds for economy diversification. Foreign investment increased into Russia, domestic capital investment is on the rise as well, yet we still do not have all the capital we need for more growth, yet Russia has been growing at about 8%. I hope turbulence in the world financial markets started in the US would not inhibit this growth as Russia still needs foreign investment as any economy. Otherwise, I see great opportunities for people with the right education, experience, and skill set.

I do hope Russia is heading in the right direction at least we have been having quite prudent finance/economics folks in the government for quite some time.

Thanks for answering my question, Ricky...the bbc website has some good links to other articles about Russia, it definitely seems like now's the time to be an entrepreneur there..

Roughshod, I'm a big girl now  and I never asked for or expected 'protection' from anyone here, and I don't even NEED protection from an insignificant little mosquito like saffron, buzzing around looking for attention with her never ending pathetic grudges

I'm trying to think how to explain this, so that you'll understand this is not actually about saffron at all...........

OK, trying to explain this

saffron doesn't like me, OK, fine.......I'm not losing any sleep over it.

She wants to post here.........OK, fine, it's a free world, I can't stop her.

She wants to make collections of posts I've made on different boards over several years to try and make me look like an idiot........can't stop that either, don't like it much when people try to make a fool of me, but heyyyy I've made a fool of myself often enough on the internet, I gave her the ammunition :smt089

She wants to make polls about me......... :smt015

She wants to PM me with a few more personal and private insults, can't stop her there either....

She wants to ridicule my work, my marriage, my life.......her choice, can't say it makes her personality look too great but :smt015

She wants to post puking and 'ignore' smilies after I post, like she's the playground bully trying to turn people against me........she can try, might work :?

But you know something, Roughshod...........I am F*CKED if I'll sit here while people like you seem to lump me and saffron together, like I'm as vindictive and shallow and meaningless as she is, like this is just a catfight with two stupid women each as bad as the other.

If anyone else on this board had been singled out for the regular abuse that saffron's been directing my way, I think I'd have told them to either get over their grudge and bugger off somewhere else instead of spoiling the whole atmosphere of the board for everyone, or sort it out in private.
But funny how the people who are always on about 'being true to themselves' just wimp out of things........

more to come if I can be bothered, just being true to myself here 8)

kamar, I'm trying to explain here..................IT'S NOT HER

I could not give a f*ck what she says, what she does, who she is.......she is just a catalyst but she could be anyone, she could be a frigging circus acrobat in Outer Mongolia for all I care

It's other people's reactions that p*ss me off.........

Moll, its your reaction to her everytime that 'p*sses' me off. You always take the bait. I have had it in my mind that to get some reaction out of this forum, all I must do is bait you and you explode into a spectacular explosion of pent up vitrioulity that needs a target to vent itself against.

Though that might seem like I don't care, it seems to be all that makes this channel work, and also have a very strong impression you actually need the fight.

suit yourself, Roughshod.

You obviously have not understood a word I've said.

I don't need the fight, that's the whole point..........I come on here for either meaningful discussion, or relaxation, not this crap from saffron which seems to be quite acceptable to you in spite of your endless posts about integrity and the meaning of life on the internet.

Moll, you are right, who needs to fight. But the fight is there waiting to happen if you let it. I remember as a young boy in a farming area visiting my friend but just before his place was another house that had this wicked alsation dog. It was slightly downhill on a gravel road and I would try to pick up as much speed as possible and upon passing this house place my whole body on the opposite side of the bicycle facing the dog with my full weight on that side peddle. Then oneday I read that if you do not show fear to an animal it quite likely will leave one alone. So I tried it out and as I approached this house and the damn dog came bounding out I slowed down and stopped. I just looked at it pretty well prepared to use my bike as a club if I had to if it attacked me. It checked me out and growled at me. At that time I also remembered that they can smell fear so I thought i was pretty much done for then because I was *beep* scared. However it seemed this dog kept it distance and I suddenly realized it was also scared. It was not sure how to interpret my behaviour. After that it would run out just be a normal damn dog without trying to scare the sh*t out of me.

But in that same street was a donkey we tried to ride. but it would never budge. we would try whipping it with branches from the trees in its habitat. it never budged. Then oneday I got the bright idea not to treat it like some dumbass form of transport and I ripped a branch off from a tree and attempted to feed it instead. rubbed its nose and broke off leaves from the branch and tried to feed it. at least its jaws seem to work because it seemed to accept the attention. after that I could climb on its back and that donkey would actually walk around.

It seemed to make me realize that any form of life, no matter how stupid or clever for that matter responds to a caring touch. And that is what I am about here Moll, although I do not exactly portray it as such. One has to respect others within the limits of ones reasoning to realize we all need to be respected just because we are here. whether a donkey or a rabid alsation or a person riding a bike down a road trying to face his fear.
