:) And so this was my first happy day back in Capetown
Hoss my "Spanish book" is finnished :) and not sad about it I am curious what my "Capetown book" has instore Cant wait to read it !!!
Although I have only been back one day it feels like 3 I have done so much today !
:sunny: The weather turned out to be even more beautiful then I hoped for
wall to wall sunshine and when I had breakfast I almost choked with excitement cause I saw several whales
well parts of them to be honest
First you see a spout of water then maybe a tail or its back
They are the Southern right whales I am told
You see every window in my new home looks over the Atlantic ocean and I tend to have my breakfast sitting at the breakfast bar in the kitchen looking out the window
I have a pair of binoculars sitting right at my fingertips, I often forget to eat there is so much to see ! 8)
Boats ofcourse
Freighters fishingboats, sailing or sightseeing boats or a drilling rig being towed, helicopters flying by, many are sightseeing tours too , motorised kites, dolphins and now the whales have arrived :)
I was hoping to catch them with my camera but was just too late
and because I know some of you enjoy this :) all these photos were taken from my home, this evening just before and after sunset which is around 6 PM
The Southern Right Whale (Eubalaena australis) is so called because they were thought to be the "right" whale to catch. The members of this species are very rich in oil and whalebone, and when killed floats in water.
Features: Black with occasional white markings along back and underside of body. Callosities (outgrowths of tough skin) around the head.
Length: 14 - 18 m
Weight: average 41 000 kg
Cruising speed: 2 - 3 knots
Blow: V-shaped and between 4 - 5 metres high
Status: Vulnerable
Breeding biology: This involves several males trying to mate with a single female. The males have the largest testes of any mammal and fight their reproductive battles with shear quantities of sperm. The female prevents mating by lying on her back, but when she turns over to breathe, a male will take the opportunity to cover her. Gestation is approximately 12 months and lactation probably occurs from between 6 to 12 months.
The best time to see southern right whales is between June and November, when they make their annual + 2000 km journey from their cold Antarctic feeding grounds to calve and mate in the southern and south-eastern coastal region of the Cape.
:) Not my picture;
A policeman attaches explosives to the head of a southern right whale that was stranded on a beach near Cape Town
Marine biologists used explosives to kill an 11-tonne southern right whale beached helplessly on South Africa's coast, after several attempts to move it failed.
Mike Meyer of Marine and Coastal Management told the SAPA news agency that the two-year-old whale had become stranded in shallow water after an apparent "navigational error". |

Winky,
I think your Capetown book will hold pleasant days if compared to your Spanish Book 8)
Looking at the natural surroundings of the Cape it holds a promising beauty to look forward to...
Now I am wondering about the other life trends in both countries; one in Europe and the other in the far South of Africa..How about the people?...the ease of daily life...standard of life...
I have to say that everything you say here about South Africa is totally new to me...Probably for most Egyptians... |

Wow I will never forget that night ! 8)
I got lost and was stuck in traffic so I took a slipway off the road (It was at snails pace ) and when I looked back out of my window I saw these people s huts
They look like piles of rubbish but those rags are their houses
A stark reminder of what reality is like for many here
:) Well tomorrow life starts to get serious again
this was it for now
better get my beauty sleep
:? I do hope to hear from Sean soon |

OK Guys :) you are in luck !
I am just home , had my shower and now have one hour left before I crash in bed
I see there were 59 views  since my last post
so I figure you are enjoying the pictures like I do, showing you this terrific spot in the world
These photos were all taken yesterday at sunset from the same spot about 20 minutes from my home (in heavy traffic)
The famous V&A Waterfront
at the moment they are adding more shops restaurants hotels and parking
All to be ready for the 2010 Fifa soccer worldcup
http://www.waterfront.co.za/
V&A Waterfront
:) This is where I do most of my shopping
It is my nearest shopping center There are several supermarkets and loads of other shops
Many weekends I go there for entertainment or dinner and like tonight I had a bite to eat (sushi)and then finnish by going to the supermarket before driving home
The shops, cinemas and restaurants etc are all in those long low blue roofed buildings
the restaurants overlook the harbour, its a working harbour sometimes there are huge cruiseliners moored along the quay
The high building with the blue roof is a 5 star hotel The Table Bay Hotel
I zoomed out so you can see it from a better angle
My best friend Karin lives on the opposite shore :) Its takes about half an hours drive to get there
Then right next to the V&A waterfront lies Cape Town Harbour
I saw the rigs being towed along the coast from my home
they need refurbishing
Moving my camera slightly to the right you can see the Cape Town City Bowl;
the bussiness district
and this being Africa 8)
Its quickly dark
What a beautiful place :)
I love it here !
and again I moved my camera slightly to the right
This is CapeTown at night
spread out at the feet of DevilsPeak mountain
then I took 2 more shots and you would have seen CT at the feet of Table Mountain
except that I screwed them up
so sorry...
maybe next time
Nighty night all  |
