| Was there really a GREAT FLOOD of water that covered the earth and wiped out most of mankind, or were those stories of the flood just based on fables and old wives tales, is there any evidence to back up the beleifs in the FLOOD ? |

| No evidence of a planetary flood exists. It is thought that heavy flooding in the Mediterranean gave rise to religious mythology as an explanation. The story of Noah, for example, has no scientific possibility or verification. |

| no evidence---well there have been cities discovered under the sea off the costs of iran, india, and japan , that after prolonged and extensive tests on various artifacte recovered and other records, that enabled scientists and others to put a time period of about 4,300 years for the cities being under the waters , this takes us back to about 2,300 B.C which is a date widely accepted for the flood of NOAH----and you may have heard of the EPIC OF GILGAMESH ? archaologists found in mesopotamia the library of an assryian king, containg many clay tablets, and one of those tablets contained the story of a man living before 2.000 B.C who was warned by the GODS to build a boat for himself and his family and take into it whatever was needed for their survival , because the GODS were going to destroy mankind with a flood of water because of their sins, the tale on this 11th tablet has become known world wide as THE EPIC OF GILGAMESH, and it can be seen by anyone who visits the place where it is kept, and louise dont put all yor faith in scientific evidencebecause so called scientific evidence can be misinterpreted , mistakes are possible, and evidence is sometimes deliberatly altered to fit another agenda, dont believe EVERYTHING that the scientific community tells you . http://www.ancientx.com/nm/anmviewer.asp?a=2&z=1 |

Sea levels have changed over millenia and earthquakes, etc, have caused cities to sink into the sea. This certainly does not indicate a total planetary inundation.
Frankly, I would rather put my faith in demonstrable evidence than the religious myths of people who lived long before the understanding of geology, plate techtonics and chemical analysis of strata.
Please read my original comment. IT IS THOUGHT THAT WIDESPREAD FLOODING IN THE MEDITERRANEAN GAVE RISE TO RELIGIOUS MYTHOLOGY
Religious people often explain "inexplicable" events by imagining that some diety caused them, usually to punish naughty humans. Perhaps you could explain to me why a god who created so many species would destroy them all because humanity had sinned? Did giraffes "sin," too? Were there evil aardvarks? Killer kangaroos?
I do not wish to ridicule this belief but truly, it does not make any sense. Flooding due to variations in sea levels makes sense. |
