Akhmim is across the Nile from Sohag.
It is renown for weaving, especially carpets and tapestries.
It has a big Coptic population.
Akhmim has also several rock-cut tombs and a chapel dedicated
to Min,
Egyptian god of fertility. There is also several Coptic monasteries
and churches like the monastery of Al-Mallak (Image 1) or the
monastery of Al-Shohada' (the marytres) (See above image + Images
